Today, the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction provides our sector with the opportunity to reflect on all the progress that has been made – and continues to be made – in reducing disaster risk and the vital promotion of a culture of risk awareness worldwide.
Whilst the primary goal of disaster risk reduction should always be prevention, we recognise that this is unfortunately not always possible, so we need to continue to work collaboratively and innovatively to minimise the harms of current and potential disasters and humanitarian crises.
Here at Solvoz we recognise that a crucial part of this is progressing towards a more sustainable and responsible humanitarian sector. Not only to use our limited resources as effectively and equitably as possible but to reduce the environmental impact of humanitarian aid delivery within the local and wider contexts in which we work. This is particularly important in light of the growing incidence of climate change related disasters.
Sustainable humanitarian procurement is fundamental to this greening of humanitarian and disaster responses. Want to learn more about how we can support your organisation to develop more sustainable approaches to humanitarian procurement? Learn more here.
